Chipotle's CEO weighs in on the burrito bowl portion size debate

Customers have been unhappy with Chipotle for serving smaller portions in their burrito bowls. Chipotle’s CEO acknowledged the feedback and stated that the company is making changes. The CEO clarified that there was no directive to reduce portions, but the feedback prompted them to reassess their practices. Chipotle plans to ensure more consistent and generous portions across all their restaurants, with outliers requiring retraining. This comes amidst accusations of shrinkflation, where chains sell smaller portions for the same price. The company’s business has not been affected by these claims, as reflected in their strong financial performance for the second quarter of 2024. Chipotle attributes this partly to the popularity of their reintroduced chicken al pastor and last year’s price increases offsetting rising costs.
